This year Smart Energy has introduced Air source Heat Pumps to Bali Indonesia. Heat pumps are an extremely efficient way of creating hot water using approximately a quarter of the electricity of a conventional electric hot water heater and up to a 5 times the energy efficiency of a gas/coal/oil boiler. This obviously equates to a huge saving on your energy costs and a massive reduction  in green house CO2 emissions.

Heat pumps are ideally suited to residences, Villas and Hotels where space (an average solar hot water system requires 4 sqr mtrs for a 3-4 person system) or lack of direct sunlight is an issue.

How They Work Heat pump hot water heaters use electricity to move heat from one place to another instead of generating heat directly. Therefore, they can be three to four times more energy efficient than conventional electric resistance water heaters. To move the heat, heat pumps work like a refrigerator in reverse. While a refrigerator pulls heat from inside a box and dumps it into the surrounding room, a stand-alone air-source heat pump water heater pulls heat from the surrounding air and dumps it—at a higher temperature—into a tank to heat water. You can purchase a stand-alone heat pump water heating system as an integrated unit with a built-in water storage tank or you can also retrofit a heat pump to work with an existing conventional storage water heater.
